Island Health is seeking full-time and locum General Internists to provide inpatient and outpatient care at Cowichan District Hospital (CDH) in the heart of the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, BC. The Opportunity
As a General Internist at CDH, you will play a vital role in a growing, modern healthcare environment. Our 148-bed hospital is expanding, with a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility opening in 2027, featuring 203 beds, 6 ICU, and 8 HAU beds, expanded ICU and endoscopy capacity, and an on-site call room for internists.
You'll provide high-acuity inpatient care, participate in a 1-in-7 paid on-call schedule, and establish a thriving outpatient practice with flexibility to develop an area of interest. You will have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents through Island Health's affiliation with UBC and the Island Medical School postgraduate and undergraduate programs. Work alongside an engaged group of hospitalists, family physicians, and specialists in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Anesthesia, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Radiology. While there are no local internal medicine subspecialists or intensivists, our team is well-supported by colleagues in Victoria and Nanaimo.

Compensation & Incentives
This position may be eligible for additional Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) remuneration, including:
- Recruitment Incentive: $10,000 (full-time)
- Relocation Reimbursement: Up to $15,000 (based on location)
- Fee Premium: 4.20%
- Annual Flat Fee: $6,508.80
- Rural CME Allowance: Starting at $3,000/year (years 3 & 4), increasing to a maximum of $6,000/year after 4 years
