Mackenzie Health's two hospitals - Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital - each have a full-service emergency department, core services and specialized services to provide our patients with the care they need. A new Inpatient Mental Health Program opened last spring at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, and we continue providing the services available to the community at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Our community-based locations and services continue to provide additional support to the Western York Region.

Position Overview

Mackenzie Health is seeking a psychiatrist fulltime for inpatient and outpatient. The physician will work in consultation with the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the other physicians within the department. The physician may need to provide ECT services as part of inpatient care. There is an on-call requirement as determined by the needs of the department. The physician is expected to provide coverage at both sites. The physician is accountable to the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the program leaders for clinical and operational management within the Psychiatry Program.

Responsibility and Accountability

The physician must demonstrate the following competencies:
Assess patients to diagnose the nature and extent of mental health disorders.
Manage patients through the continuum of hospital care.
Order treatments, tests, and consults with specialty and primary care physicians where necessary.
Prescribe, direct, and administer medications to treat various mental health and behavioural disorders.
Provide on-call services.
Flexibility to cover other services, as needed.
Provide consultation on admitted patients, as required.
Prepare and submit case reports and summaries for Ministry of Health reporting criteria, as required.

Education - Certification - Licenses

Candidate must possess a Medical Degree (MD) and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Psychiatry.
Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required.
Preferred candidates would possess 3 to 5 years' experience.

We work closely as a collaborative group and are seeking engaged team players.

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) currently has a full-time vacancy for a psychiatrist. The selected candidate will provide service to the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) and the Community Assistant Stabilization & Support Team (CAST).

Responsibilities:
- Psychiatric and medical assessment, treatment and management of program participants within scope of expertise or liaising with appropriate services when out of scope.
- Participation in assessment of new referrals and facilitating intake of accepted participants to ACT.
- Provide psychiatric support to the CAST service on a consult basis.
- Participation in supporting/facilitating participant discharge from ACT when appropriate.
- Clinical supervision, education, and training of other staff.
- Development, maintenance, and supervision of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and procedures.
- Review, follow-up, and order blood work, in conjunction with Team Lead/Nursing, for assigned participants.
- Expectation to provide input and leadership, in conjunction with Team Lead, in all aspects of team management as required.
- Expectation to provide supervision to residents and medical students who may be on rotation, elective, or community exposure.
- Equitable participation in an on-call rota.


Compensation is based on a blended model: daily work stipend plus 20% CAST billings.

Eligible for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative, NRRRI. TBRHSC will contribute towards relocation costs of specialists moving to Thunder Bay, as well as other incentives.
